Some historical sources indicate that the Sohar Castle was constructed during the era of Oman bin Qahtan in the first century AD, while other sources suggest that it is constructed to the era of Malik bin Fahim Al -Azdi, that a third source attributes it to Al -Jalandi bin Al -Mustarab. Archaeological excavations were conducted inside and around the Sohar Castle, and a settlement dating back to the pre -Islam period was revealed. These discoveries in the settlement indicated that Sohar was a prominent commercial center, as seals for trade and a well -made red pottery were imported from India in the second and third centuries AD, in addition to the black porcelain that was imported from China.
