It is called al-Shahba and is characterized by its large circular shape. The castle was built on a rocky land in Nizwa, in Al-Aqr neighborhood, located in the center of the city, near the market and the mosque. The building consists of a castle and a fort that has been expanded and increased in height to reach a level of 14 meters, after that it was covered with a strong and stable floor and platforms were placed on it from which 23 cannon. In the castle there are a number of wells, supply stores, ammunition and weapons, and a prison, in addition to ambushes such as falls, doors, and pits.

The original fortification of the castle was built in the ninth century AD during the reign of Imam Salt bin Malik, and some date back to pre-Islam. The building was renewed and modernized by Imam Sultan bin Saif Al-Yarubi in the year 1624 AD, then Imam Sultan bin Saif Al-Yarubi in the years 1649 AD to the year 1668 AD added a circular tower equipped with cannons with a diameter of up to 40 meters and a height of up to 30 metres.
